Art Quilts

     Definition of Art: The conscious production or arrangement of colors, form or other elements in a manner that effects the sense of beauty.

     Definition of Quilt: A coverlet made from two layers of fabric, with a layer of cotton  wool in between held together with ties or stitched designs.

     Put these two together and you have an art quilt, used for strictly aesthetic purposes. Not only beautiful to look at but to hold and feel also.

     So many mediums can be used in an art quilt. Including, but not limited to, beads, buttons, thread, metal, fibers, paper, paint and even photographs.

People who look beyond traditional patterns and techniques make art quilts. If you are interested in stepping outside the box, make an art quilt. There are no rules involved, only your will and imagination. You must be willing to experiment with design and materials.

     There are art quilt shows, art retreats and traveling art quilt exhibits all over the country.
